Ramadan Dinner to Raise Funds to End Humanitarian Crisis in Lebanon

Princeton University to Provide Site for Event to Raise Islamic Awareness on Campus and to Foster Interfaith Dialogue

(Princeton, NJ) – In an effort to raise awareness of its Islamic community on campus and surrounding areas, the Council for the Advancement of Muslim Professionals (CAMP) will host a Ramadan dinner at Princeton University on Saturday, October 14, 2006 to begin at 5:30 PM. Event planners expect 200 to 250 individuals to attend from the central Jersey area, pulling across faith and diversity. Funds raised will be used to end the humanitarian crisis in Lebanon.

“This dinner will draw several communities together,” said Mona Abdellall, event coordinator for CAMP. “Our expectation is to open communication and promote understanding among the different communities in our area, all in an effort to help needy children,” Abdellall concluded. 

The event will be held in Liberation Hall of the Carl A. Fields Center for Equality and Cultural Understanding, established to maintain an environment that acknowledges, respects, and promotes diversity by providing cultural, social, political advocacy and leadership development opportunities for the students of the campus. 

Imam Malik, the former Muslim Chaplain at Howard University, will speak to the audience. He was the first Muslim officially installed as a chaplain in higher education, and now heads the National Association of Muslim Chaplains in Higher Education. Imam Malik is known nationally for his fundraising efforts for masjids, schools, and relief and support organizations. 

There will be a poetry presentation in the cause of Lebanon made by Rutgers and Princeton University Students. Congressman Rush Holt of the local congressional office will also attend and say a few words. . 
Who: Young professionals, Princeton University staff and students, greater communities of central New Jersey. Open to the public. Free for members of the press.
