Details:

As Cook County’s food bank, the Greater Chicago Food Depository obtains more than 43 million pounds of donated food each year. Approximately 50% of this food must be inspected or sorted and then packaged before it can be safely distributed to 600 member soup kitchens, food pantries and shelters. Volunteers help complete much of this work, which involves everything from packaging bulk cereal or frozen vegetables to sorting bread or food donated in damaged cartons. Volunteers must be able to stand for up to 90 minutes while doing some light lifting and bending.
