Tsunami: Donations for earthquake victims
On behalf of CAMP, we would like to take this opportunity to express our support to those who have been
directly effected by the Tsunami disaster; and sincerest condolences to those that have lost someone due to
this horrific tragedy.
It is our duty as Muslims to not only be there for our direct community but also serve as an aid towards any
good cause around the globe. As such, we are immediately taking donations for the relief work being put forth towards assisting many
direct and indirect victims of the Tsunami disaster in the most hit area.
Facts:
1. There are over 124,000 deaths reported.
2. Indonesia has been hit the hardest in this catastrophy with over 3/4 of the reported deaths. (BBC has reported 84,246 deaths of 124,000 are from Indonesia).
3. The United Nations reports this number exceeds 150,000 and may never be known as many bodies have been washed out to sea." More on this : http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/4141499.stm
4. Indonesians have NOT been getting the proper coverage nor are they receiving the proper aid to help those that are in need.
Indonesia has by far suffered the MOST, however the ironic fact is that they are having the toughest time raising money to aid their relief. While other communities such as the Indian & Sri Lankan community (for e.g.) are much stronger and more present overseas, the Indonesian community is far and few between. The Indonesian embassy has expressed many challenges in managing their country's needs as the support system has been lacking.
Upon many discussions with the Indonesian embassy, and assurances that there will be full coverage and
tracking of where funds are channeled, we at CAMP have chosen to aid the Relief Cause of Indonesia by
donating all proceeds to the Indonesian Embassy in Ottawa. They, in turn will
channel the money to the local
Relief Organizations in Indonesia who are best able to channel what is needed to those affected.
We've assessed that this is by far the most secure, productive and efficient
source to be dealing with as opposed to going through 3rd party organizations
who have had challenges in assessing and getting into the most affected areas.
We commend the efforts of the many organizations and relief groups out there that are taking donations for
this cause ... however we have chosen this one after much research as they have been the most in need to
directly aid the victims of this horrifying tragedy.
As CAMP provides all funds collected to the Indonesian Embassy, they shall duly forward all donations to the victims in need in Aceh and North Sumatra, through the following working group:
