Career Symposium 2009 - Jumpstart Your Career

About This Event:

As a result of the state of the economic climate and with such a great need of professional job search assistance, we will be hosting a career symposium event on July 18, 2009. This event is open to the Muslim community and professionals in the greater Chicago land area. The purpose is to assist and guide professionals towards a prosperous and advanced career by providing them the skills, tools and guidance necessary to prepare them through a very competitive market.

CAMP-Chicago has gathered experienced local career experts to bring to you a Career Development Seminar. Professionals from various industries that will be available to show proven techniques on improving our community member’s professional image and effective job search strategies.

In this workshop the speaker will discuss how to sharpen your interviewing skills to stand out amongst the competition. Understand that interviewers can find others just as competent as you, but will hire those that are self images. Learn how to make a positive impression during the course of the interview process while minimizing wrong perceptions that may lead to snap judgments. Learn how to sell yourself properly and increase likeability factors with the interviewers. Learn how to be prepared to answer the most common interview questions which will come up within the first five minutes of an interview and will lead them making the decision of hiring you.

The right way to Network: How to effectively utilize your Networking skills

Focus of this workshop is on networking as this is the single most effective way to job hunt and to increase business opportunities. Without a circle of high quality professional acquaintances, you will be severely disadvantaged throughout your career. However, building this circle requires planning and you have to continually work at it. This discussion will make you not only better at networking but it will attract more people to you as well. As they say, it is a two way street.

Kristi Daeda a Success Coach and President of Twin Sparks Consulting, Inc.  She partners with individuals and organizations to tap into talent and align people with inspiring work.  In addition to her work with professionals in job transition, she writes daily at Career Adventure (http://www.kristidaeda.com), a blog focused on helping professionals be more effective both in and out of job search.

Interview skills: Asma Hashmi

Asma Hashmi is a HR Professional with several years of staffing and consulting experience in various industries. She has extensive experience with career counseling, training, placement, hiring, and mentoring. She holds a holds a Bachelors degree in Psychology from Loyola University.

The right way to Network: Marci Zinke

Marci Zinke is an Account Executive for a large humanitarian NGO organization. Her experience includes business and organizational development; public speaking; time management; and expectation management. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Biology with a minor in Marketing from NIU.

Sway Factor™ (Online Social Networking): Sima Dahl 

Sima Dahl is president of Parlay Communications, Ltd., a consulting firm that provides marketing, social media and branding solutions for individuals and companies. She is also the founder of Marketing Job Wire, a network of marketing professionals that share job leads and job Karma with each other. Sima has more than 20 years of experience and earned an undergraduate degree in Communications from the University of Illinois and an MBA with distinction from DePaul University.
